 This is me waiting my turn for some hot laps at Watkins Glen international Raceway it was Awesome!  A shot of the custom fire wall that I built this winter with the 73 Slant 225 reflecting off it.  Some more custom fab this is a mirror from a 78 firebird converted into taillights. just thought I would share some pics Thanks for looking and have a Great Day! |

Oh there it is!  Nice truck! You've put some more work into it. Cool idea on the taillights. Don't let Dan see them though!   Watkins Glen, huh? Isn't that a road course? What are the engine specs? Aren't you running drum brakes? If you were running a road course with those old style drum brakes... Yeesh! Mine is still right where it was the last time we exchanged emails...  But I may have someone that might work on it before I get back to the states...

Hey Rob it's good to hear from you!! Yeah I have converted the drum front brakes over to disc, but when that picture was taken I was running drum all the way around the old pump and pray! The Motor has been recently converted over to super six this winter and I still have to adjust the kickdown linkage maybe this weekend. Yeah I thought about the taillights after I posted them I hope I don't offend Dan I still need his knowledge Have a great day! |

What are you running for disc brakes? Did you use the Scarebird kit or something else? I'm still thinking I'll put my truck on a Dakota frame, but I have that Volare clip just sitting there... It's nice seeing you make so many improvements on your truck. I like the mount idea of the taillights, it's just the lenses that raise an eyebrow. Dan might actually have some suggestions on how to improve them. Do they shine very well? I have been subscribed to both Classic Trucks and Custom Classic Trucks magazines ever since your tuck was featured in Classic Trucks and you sent me those scanned pages. Was it a scary ride at Watkins Glen? |

I am using a kit from www.aajbrakes.com it combines 1980 Dodge Mirada rotors bearings and seals with 1973 chevelle calipers the kit has been on for over a year with no problems highly recommeded and the owner Roger is excellent source of tech advice during instalation. As far as the taillights I did not post them to start a flame war just show some custom fab work the lenses are made from the same material that red lights are made from I obtained through a local manufacture so there is no real issue with the light luminaries. I think I will measure out put this weekend just for my own information as compared to my 09 chevy truck. have a great day! |

Thanks for the link to aajbrakes. I'll check that out. I don't want to lose the "truckness", but definitely want to improve braking and preferably steering. So many options!... I'd be interested in your findings on the brake light out put. You still haven't answered how the Watgins Glen hot laps went.  Love your truck! |

The laps were awesome I was very impressed with how smooth the track is (I'm used to what NY calls roads more like pothole alleys) I was unable to go to the track last spring because I was doing the brake conversion hopefully this season I'll be there again. I will bring home the meter today and check it out this weekend. I am still running stock suspension on the front with a steering column from a 73 dart I get alot of "bump steer" on the highway, but you get used to it maybe someday I'll upgrade the suspension. |

OK here are the results: Test preformed at 6:20AM eastern time Meter: Greenlee Digital light meter 93-172 2009 Chevy Silverado -886 lux brake lights 1956 custom taillight - 767 lux brake lights In my opinion that is not huge differnace considering the 2009 Silverado has reflective mirrors to enhance the light. I would think that an older vehical were the lenses are cloudy due to age would score lower than a truck with 5000 miles on it, but that is my unbaised opionon and not a proven fact. Like I stated before I did not post these pics to start a flame war just to show custom fab everyone has an opionon on what look they are going for on vechical. I respect the stock restorations as well as the rat rods I personally am a hotrodder. Have a Great Day! |

Thanks for posting your results. I'm more of a hotrodder/restomodder kinda guy too. I don't know much about the specifics of lighting, but that seems like a pretty good number in comparison. I like the new wheels too. The chrome sparkles it up a bit. Did the original drum brakes also have the 5X4.5 bolt pattern? I seem to remember my truck having wheels on the front that have those "locating dowels?" that protrude from the drum through the wheel. You are running a later 8 1/4 rear, right? |

Yeah the wheels are 5x4 1/2 bolt pattern so I did not have to change wheels money savings! Yes the Rear end is the 8 1/4 I am taking the truck the body shop for some work next week I do not paint although I wish I could to save some money, but you have to know your limitations. I still have the original drum set-up in the garage I don't like to get ride of anything that I change on this truck because parts are so hard to find. |

Nice truck, I'm doing a 56 Town Panel. I put a 79 Nova front clip on and a 81 trans am diff. 318 overdrive Lots of work and if i was doing it over I'd go with a volare clip. My truck is rodded as well,Caddy tail lights, aluminium gas tank,welded front panel/fenders, frenched headlights (not quite done yet) talking with Dan about lighting. Not to bore you but this project has been turned over to our local highschool and a very good automotive teacher. It's like a Chip Foose overhaul. Anyhow it's good to see an other old dodge truck out there. I think they are great looking trucks and don't get the recognition they deserve. Barry |
