Post subject:  833 od swap on 66 SL6 in 71 D100 pickup, a bit lost

Hi Guys/gals. I am in the process of swapping the tired 3 spd trans and 225 slant out of my 71 D100 2wd for a nice running 66 225 and a 75 833 od I have here. As you guys probably already know the 833 won't work with my stock monster cast iron bell which has only the 3spd pattern. I read here the 66 crank takes a couple year only flywheel but when I measured the hub on my 66 it was the same as the 71 225? If I understand this right I should be looking for a 64-67 flywheel, and a 75-87 truck bell with appropriate clutch fork? Any tips on a source for these items? I have called all the local yards and mopar friends and people seem to have scrapped all this stuff long ago making my "planned" 2 day swap a hassle and tying up my lift in the process. Thanks for the help, Chad.

Post subject:  You sure?

Maybe...

If you have a dial caliper and the outside of the hub on your 71 engine and the 66 engine are the same then one of a couple of things has happened...the 66 engine is not a 66 engine (or was rebuilt with a 68+ crank), or your truck engine has the 1967- crank...

Check to verify your crank hub size so you can determine if you need a 1963-1967 Flywheel... or a 1968-1987 Flywheel...

Truck bellhousing is for 1975-1987 A-833OD, late versions from 1981-1987 use a ballstud to hold the clutch fork in place and acts as the 'pivot', earlier versions are of the 'clip and bracket' variety.

Where are you located? I have a 1981 A-833OD bell and the clutch fork...I just toredown the tranny to rehab an A-body A-833OD...PM me
if interested and we can figure out a price plus shipping.

Thanks for the reply. I did measure it with the calipers and if I recall correctly it was 1.965? I can recheck today. Anyone have the sizes for the two crank hubs? I figure the same thing, crank was swapped on one or my 71 is not really a 71.

I'll send a pm on the bell, thanks!
