Post subject: | Quick Wiring Harness (Dash) Questions |
Hi Gang, I want to know if I can use a dash wiring harness from a 69 Dart GTS in a 66 Dart GT. Any other issues I should be concerned with? My fuse block is a little rusty (flaky) and it appeared that there was a short in it at one time since the plug to the light switch has melted plastic. I figure I will replace the voltage limiter in the instrument panel and the headlight switch at the same time. BTW: anyone know where to order a voltage limiter from? Also, If I bypass the ammeter by connecting the 2 leads, do they still have to be attached to the instrument panel or can I just attach the wires together (independent from the instrument panel)? kimpelt@pdx.edu |

The second generation A-body (1963-66 Dart) and third generation A-body (1967-76) dash wiring harness do not directly interchange. The wiring color is typically the same for the specified function, but the connectors are too different. --Walt Jackson WalterLeeJackson@compuserve.com |

: Hi Gang, : I want to know if I can use a dash wiring : harness from a 69 Dart GTS in a 66 Dart GT. No, these are different and will not swap. : : My fuse block is a little rusty (flaky) and : it appeared that there was a short in it at : one time since the plug to the light switch : has melted plastic. The fuse block itself can be replaced or repaired, I recently cleaned and repaired a melted one using high temp two part epoxy to support the fuse holder "prongs". I did it without pulling the harness from the car. (I did have to unclip the wire bundles and unscrew the fuse block mount, then pulled it down where I could get at it) The headlight plug can be replaced, make a wiring "map" and push-out each wire, ("trip" the holding sper) then re-install the wires into a replacement plastic plug using your "map". : : I figure I will replace : the voltage limiter in the instrument panel : and the headlight switch at the same time. : BTW: anyone know where to order a voltage : limiter from? Good question, have you tried the dealer? It the same limiter for many years and models. : : Also, If I bypass the ammeter : by connecting the 2 leads, do they still : have to be attached to the instrument panel : or can I just attach the wires together : (independent from the instrument panel)? You can just attach the two wires, I use a #10 pan head screw and nut, through the wire eyelets, then wrap with electrical tape and shrink tube. A fast way is to just put both wires on one of the ammeter's posts so you do not have to find a seperate screw to use. DD |
