Many years ago I did a Master Power Brake upgrade on my old Dart. My son used it all through High School and is now in college-w-my 1992 V8 Dakota as wheels. I now have the Dart sitting around and would like to maybe start driving it. After sitting 18 mos. It started up fine-w-fresh gas and a battery. The disk brake upgrade was much needed IMO-w-the larger dual master cylinder and the larger upp control arms etc. but it still has a hard pedal. I called MPB and they said I could get their "Hemi booster kit" that comes-w-an ofset bracket, new master cyllinder & push rod. It is a lot more $ than I was hoping to spend. Anyone have another recommendation?
Also at the time I was working to get the car road worthy4-5 years ago I did an engine rebuid-w-the newer style heads off a 1978 Aspen and did the super six upgrade. It has always had 2 issues that I've never gotten around to fixing. The car bogs or stalls when I want to go from a stop when it's warmed up and the other thing it, even-w-the better exhaust manifold it has exhaust leaks. I spent a lot of time getting the intake/exhaust matched. Is there a better gasket I should try? It is in 2-3 spots where the manifold meets the head.
I've read a lot about timing etc but I have the timing set properly. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You could try a Remflex or Australian manifold gasket, which might solve your bog situation, too, if it is a vacuum leak. I just ordered a Raybestos MC36426 for about $70 at www.rockauto.com , which looks pretty good. I'm upgrading to disc brakes. Check with the tech staff to see if it will work with a power booster (if you have one). I think it's for either/or. 5% discount if you use the code: 15499451324699. I just looked some more, and they list a MC36406 for $66.71 for a 73 Dart with disc/drum power assisted. Don't get that if you don't have a power booster (dangerous, the piston can fall out). This item has a smaller bore than the MC36426.
The bog could mean it's time to rebuild the carb or adjust valves, both cheap maintenance projects.

The two things that I have heard to soften the brake pedal, without impairing function, are to go to a smaller bore master cylinder and softer brake pads. Carbon brake pads are the hardest, semi-metallics are sort of the middle ground, and organic pads are the softest.

When I rebuilt the KHs on my 66 GT, I went to organic brake pad material. It gives a softer pedal and produces less wear on the rotor. The downsides are brake fade occurs sooner under heavy use and shorter pad life. Since I tend to be easy on brakes, the wear issue was not a problem. IMO, fade with organic linings on the disks was less than any drum I had driven to that point.

I have a Carter BBD that has been cleaned and is ready for a rebuild that I may try for the bog/stall situation. I have a Holley 2280 on it now.
At least I have time to be methodical about troubleshooting the drivability issues-this isn't a daily driver but I'd like to drive it a lot once it is running well.
I think the master cylinder that I got from Master Power Brakes is a good one but-w-the disk upgrade I just think it is too much pressure that needs to be applied. This is, of course, just for my own comfort. I don't feel like having to push so d@mn hard all the time.
The other upgrade I'd like to do is power steering. I have all the parts I need but I also put after market A/C on the car so I don't know if there will be a crowding problem???
Lastly does anyone think a serpentine system for the belts has been offered by any after market Co.'s It would be great to have it!
Just FYI this is what I can remember I've done to the car.
complete rebuild-w-1978 motor.
.060 off the block (may be .030?)
Ported head-really just smoothed & blended
Modern after market A/C by a Co. in FLA that I would never use again
seats from a Siebring Convertible so it has shoulder belts
15" dog dish/ralley ring wheels
Complete front end rebuild
Fuel line mod
Electric fuel pump
Larger radiator.
Trans cooler
elec fan (still runs a bit warm in the hot summers here?)

FWIW-I have 4 like new 13" steel wheels-w-new tires available for free if anyone knows someone in S.E. NC or N.E. SC. Not the most in demand set of wheels but they are in the way at this point. Also when I take out the original rear axle this will be free for the taking if is worth anything other than scrap-it has sure grip for some strange reason.

Bump-any one wish to guide me toward what I need for the booster/master cylinder? Will I need an offset bracket? I appreciate it.
