My 65 Dart has manual steering and it is hard to steer for sure. I have 15" wheels on it which may make it harder to turn the wheel and I did a Masater Power Brake "B" body disk upgrade which may have some geometry changes that hurt the turning ability. I have a full power steering setup except the longer shaft (I actually thought this was for when going from power to manual?) but have read that the feel for the road is real poor-w-power steering. It looks like my twin 15 yr old girls will be using this car and I know that they can't steer it the way it is now so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Howard Hampstead, NC |

I don't know if there is a short cut for what you want, other than the full on power steering setup. Firm Feel Inc has a power steering box that is tightened up, and is represented to have good steering feel. http://www.firmfeel.com/powerst_abe.htm If you stick with manual steering, you can work with the scrub steer, and other small adjustments, but I doubt it will make it "teen age girl" friendly. I had a Challenger T/A I restored about 8 years ago and sent my steering box to Firmfeel. They did a great job but it was a numbers matching full on show car (placed 4th at the Nats:)) but I'm out of the, "trailer, sit and wipe on the car" lifestyle and sold the car a few year back. I don't want to put the kind of $ they get into this car. 37 years ago I had a 67' Dart equiped with a 273 V8 and steering by Armstrong. As long as the car was moving, I could one finger steer it stop to stop. Something must not be right with the geometry, and or caster. |

I am guessing the geometry is not perfect. It was a long time ago that I did the brake upgraded and went to 15" wheels but I thiink I remember the alignment shop saying something about having to go to the limit-w-one of the adjustments. I also put a smaller steering wheel in the car and will go back to an original style as soon as I can find a nice one at a decent price. Do you think the diameter of the steering wheel would have much affect?Thanks Howard |

A Firm Feel box is cheap compared to a R&P conversion. It will work when you're done too. Anyone try a rack and pinion conversion? Thanks-Howard
