Can I put 16" wheels on a '64 Valiant Signet? My son totaled his Subaru Legacy just after putting new rubber on it. The odd thing is that the lug pattern is 5x100mm. Since 100mm = 3.936" I figured I'de just swap both wheel and tire for now. Problem is the offset of the wheel causes the tire to hit the tie rod end. I'll buy wheels with the correct offset if I can put 16's on the car. Anyone know?? Thanks, Jeff |

You can run 16s on your car with the right rims. The Subaru rims are not the correct rims for your vehicle in a number of ways not excluding the bolt circle is different. .....not a lot different.... but too different for me. Luckily when you tried the offset was different enough. eVEN IF THE TIRE/RIM DOES NOT RUB THEY ARE THE WRONG PATTERN. |

Ditto on getting the right bolt pattern. "Just because it kinda fits, doesn't make it right." Use THIS calculator or one like it to compare different sizes with the height of your current tire diameter. For example, comparing my old 185-80R13 tires to 16" sizes, it looks like a 205-55R16 would be close to the right height. I know that with anything near the right offset, 205mm section width won't be a problem in a '64. Now, does anyone make that size? Time to shop the catalogs ... Note: 215-50R16 is also close in height, but offset could become an issue. [/url] |

The advice here you're getting is correct: 5-on-100 is not the same as 5-on-4, and it's unsafe to try to make the 5-on-100 wheels fit. Also they'd be the wrong offset. |

16" wheels in 5x4" are gonna be custom order. you can get your steelies resized or swap to BBP. |

Although not recommended, you could get wheel spacers to convert the bolt pattern, and correct for the too much positive offset, large backspace problem of the Subaru rims............ |

Thanks for all the info. I should have explained that I have a terrible vibration in the car while rolling down the road. I was gonna put the Subaru rims on for now to see if it solved my problem but that's a different post. Looks to me like your saying I can use 16's if the if I watch the width and height. 64'4$peed, I'm don't know what you mean by BBP.Since 5x4 will be a custom wheel do most of you guys run wheel spacers? Classic Mopar only has two wheel lug patternsSBP= 5lugs on 4" bolt circle BBP= 5 lugs on 4 1/2" bolt circle (common on the bigger cars, and late disc brakes) -D.Idiot |
