Post subject:  My new Valiant 100!

Just bought it earlier today, Ceej drove me over to get it. The guy wanted 1200 for it, which was a little high, but reasonable... I threw 900 in his face, and whamo! I now own a 1966 Valiant 100.

w00t!

View pictures here in the Valiant 100 folder... I will take some more pics, and some video tomorrow...

Specs:
Engine: Originally a 170, but now has a '72 block of unknown displacement, with a peanut plug head, and later model Mopar Performance aluminum 2bbl intake with Carter BBD on top. Still running points ignition... again, for now....

Trans: A230? It is a column shifted 3 speed, non-synchro 1st gear.

Differential: 3.23:1 (I think) 7.25" open

Brakes: Completely overhauled 9" all around, single master... for now...

It is a 4 door, and still the original white. I have all the V200 trim from my other '66, so it will be a V200 soon. Gold interior, and the seats are in good shape under the covers. Little to no rust anywhere on the car.

Shift linkage is sloppy, so I am going to rebuild it using whatever I can find that will do the job. Currently, the linkage is barely together, and will occasionally get hung up on the exhaust, although it didnt happen to me.

Engine sounds great, needs a definite complete tune-up, valve lash, timing set, all that good stuff. The rear lenses are sun baked and need to be replaced. The gas gauge works sometimes, temp gauge doesnt work, and none of the dash lights work. Nice thing is that this car has the variable speed wipers, utilizing a potentiometer (I think is what that would be...) to vary the speed.

This car even in its state of disrepair, really moves! It is peppy all around town, and it works awesomely on the freeway. The tires are almost new, and the suspension is tight. The manual steering works flawlessly as well, with no noticeable slop in the steering whatsoever.

Overall, I think I got a great deal, and I am happy that I bought it. It is the EXACT car I was looking for!

Yay!

A-230 is synchro 1st... depending on the year, you'll have to see if it has a top plate or a side plate to see if it has an A-745 or an A-903...

Let me know when you decide to step up to EI and we'll look at getting you a dizzy setup.

I have the EI unit and harness.... all I need is a distributor... You up for the task? I can bring the car over tomorrow so you can have a looky see...

The Hang 10 is being sold to an older gentleman with a Hang 10 that is rusted out up at Ed's. He already has all the parts to rebuild the car to stock, so it's his, soon as he pays for it.

Nice! You got the M-1 two barrel intake! I have never seen the burlwood dash before either. I wonder if that is a factory option or a custom thing a previous owner did. Good score.

The G2 is really hard to make out, so that may be incorrect.

Post subject:  A230 Transmission and SBP 10 brake Package !

Hey THOR -

I have a deal for you !! I just removed the complete A230 package (bellhousing, tranny, shifter, shift rods) from my Dart. I purchased this package from Josh years ago when I converted from column shift to floor. It's a direct bolt in. You'll need to find a floor hump. Maybe DI has a lead on one ! I also have a complete SBP 10 inch brake drum package (upper control arms, drums, spindles, ball joints, etc) to bolt right in place of your front 9 inch. The brake package was completly rebuilt and is in excellent shape. Josh also sold these to me and even helped install them a few years ago.
Let me know if you're interested and we'll set a price. You can pick them up in Lake Oswego or I could bring them down to Salem.

Post subject:  HUGE update!

As some of you know, about 5 weeks ago, I was driving to Portland and had a wheel bearing fail just south of Portland. The following week after repairing it, I drove out to Monmouth to save Stephanie from a dead battery in the Duster. That same night, as I was jumping the Duster, I noticed a bit of a knock when I blipped the throttle. A few days following that, I traveled to D.I.'s house and he verified my original suspicion.

Well fudge...

I took it to class @ Chemeketa, tore the engine out, found the #1 rod bearing with a channel cut out it due to some type of contamination that gained momentum, and then found a piece of casting sand stuck in the cylinder squirthole on that rod. I managed to remove that, and measured the crank journals. Other than light marks in the journal due to wear, the journals all measured out well, so I installed new rod and main bearings, installed a new timing set, cleaned the oil pump and pickup tube, then resealed the bottom end.

I reinstalled the engine the other day (Tuesday) after 4 weeks of it being out (had to fight with the parts store to get the correct bearings). I reassembled the accessories and required elements, and installed my duals finally. I am using a modded rear and new cast front I picked up in person from Doug at the Redding race last October.

I fabbed my own head pipe from the front manifold down to meet with the other, and that's about as far as I got. Regardless, it is somewhat legal, so I brought it back home today, after I terrorized the town a bit...

As to be expected, it has alot more power available than previously, and being uncapped, it sounds like a drag car. I have 2 videos I would like to share, one is located HERE and the other is HERE .

A note, in the second video, I had accidentally swapped the #2 and #4 plug wires, so it wasn't running quite right, but the first video is of me moving the car around after swapping the wires and going for a short drive around campus.

It's been a long 4 weeks, and I am happy to have my car back.

Enjoy!
