my recently aquired /6 has a stead misfire at idle that worsens at part-throttle and load situations. generally if i get up to cruising speeds it smooths out but from stoplights it sputters alot.

i did some searching and found a thread talking about idle sound and mine is a

mmmmmmmmtTICmmmmmmmmTICmmmmmmmTIC at idle and a

vrmmmmTICmmTICmTICTICmTICTICmmmm from a stop

car is a 73 swinger but the engine uses the small 5/8 plugs and I was told this was a later model engine. i put on new ballast, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, battery, + & - cables and an alternator charging cable and all are tight. the wiring one the left side of the engine around the coil and alternator is crappy with some broken insulation and patched wires. also this car didnt have the heavy stuble prior to the new parts or i could have wiggled things enough to disturb the bad wiring.

whats up and thanks in advance

Without being able to see the car I would suggest checking the firing order and make sure all of the wires are plugged i nto the cap well.

I would check the hose that goes to your brake booster from your intake manifold. make sure its not leaking. when your at a stop and your foot is on the break you are useing vacume. If that doesnt work try spraying some WD40 or carb cleaner around your carb and intake and see if the
idle changes which will indicate a vacume leak and if that doesnt work
double check the timing, and your carbs air fuel mixture.
