Is this with the car cold (after sitting all night or all day), or when it's warm (after running into the grocery store for a few items) or both?

Sounds like choke and/or carburetor issues. Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download. If you're having cold-start issues, I recommend putting in one of the Electric choke kits. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread.

did the blower motor ever work in your car? if not id check connections/wire routing to make sure everything is hooked up and were it belongs.

After the car has been sitting for a while, sometimes there is corrosion in the bulkhead connector. If you have an old car, maybe you can have somebody hold the connector steady with a small screwdriver from under the hood, and push on the firewall connector under the dash with another small screwdriver, and try to push the connector together. It doesn't cost anything to try, anyway. Disconnect the battery negative cable first.
