Could 318 pistons work with my 225 if I took the stock 3.40 bore and adapted it to the 318's 3.91 bore?? Would like to try this... Demonboy71@yahoo.com |

Sorry to say that the "math" just does not support a 3.91 bore size in a SL6. The main limitation is the Slant's 4 inch bore spacing or "centers". Rule of thumb is to have .150 thick cylinder walls minimum so based on that you can get to 3.7 or so. (2 x .150 = .300 subtracted from 4.00) Doing this would mean sleeving all 6 holes and that is not good for top cylinder deck stability. (can you say "blown head gaskets"?) Max bore-out on a SL6 is reported to be 3.562 (3 9/16) and 3.500 is pretty common. DD |

Here's a link to a super cool article Doc wrote. Cliff notes: 2.2 Turbo or Vega pistons. I'm in the process of building an engine with the 2.2 piston (+1mm)/ 198 Conn rod combo. The 198 rods are as rare as hen's teeth, so good luck. You need the longer rods because the pistons are shorter. My shortblock is not assembled yet, but from what I understand this produces a zero deck height configuration. Keith Black makes a real nice 2.2 piston. Wrist pins are within 0.001" so they will fit the rods just fine. Good luck. Gilly No Replacement for Displacement |
