has anyone ever tried to retro fit electric gauges in place of the stock gauges? I think it would be kinda neat to do this. Probably would need to install wheel speed sensors or something though to pick up speedo speed. I dunno. if anyone has done this, post up some pictures or something. May be something ide like to eventually do.

Sure. You can buy digital gauges. It just costs a buttload of money.

My '96 Dakota had an electronic speedometer and the sender for that looks like it would fit in place of the speedometer gear holder.

Here is a picture of my Dad's dash. The speedometer is electric, it uses a Hal effect circuit that is competley contained in a housing that connects directly to the speedometer output on the transmission. It is about 2"X2" overall, then you run three wires(one sensor, one hot and one ground), to the speedometer head unit.

Fopar's setup there is extremely slick... I stand in awe (or sit depending  ) at what he's done to that car..
