Problem 1- I am an electrical Moron. No offense intended to other morons :D

Problem 2- The more I search and look at diagrams the more I'm not sure what I am doing.

We have a 72 swinger with 4 wire ballast that I installed an MSD on. Car has been apart for 18 months and I can't remember where the wires go. Mainly just the one Brown wire that fed the original coil.

I have the 4 ballast wires and the small red from the MSD all bugged together over by the ballast resistor. But do I still hook the brown wire to the plus side of the coil? Or did I just have that disconnected at the coil and was it replaced by the black & orange coming to the coil from the new MSD?

Thanks for your help.

The only wires connected to the coil are the orange and black wires from the MSD box. The old ignition power wires (brown and dark blue if memory serves) that went to the ballast resistor feed the little red wire to turn on the MSD.

Thanks Josh. After I posted and looked again at the MSD instructions, that is what I was leaning towards too.

Glad to have your expert advice :D :D

Well, it fired up and ran on the 1st try. Left it run 20 minutes to break in the cam and it sounds pretty good. Distributor was in right on the first try too! :D
New water leaks, oil leaks ! I must be doing something wrong !

Thanks again for your help Josh!

You're welcome! I had a buddy in LA call me just before 5 this evening to ask how to connect his tachometer with the HEI system I helped set up.

Now I need to crack open CharlieS' very old MSD-7 to see if I can make it work again. Hopefully nothing rare or expensive is bad.
