My 2280 holley has a choke-w-a wire going to a unit mounted to the top of the head. It is about the size of a nickle and has 2 spade terminals on it-one of which goes to the choke. The other end is disconnected. If I remember right these were for warmer climates so someone a long time ago told me not to use it. Is this the general thought? I think it is to help the choke open quicker? I do live in a warm climate but not like Fla.
Thanks-Howard

That is to help the choke open faster, but it is not for warmer climates. It is part of the emisions package to reduce the time the car is on fast idle and is running rich while warming up. You should hook it back up.

What year and model is the car you're working on, and what engine has it got? Did you install the Holley 2280, or was it there when you got the car?

No, it's wrong. The round device is a choke modulator used with the original factory '73-up electric-assist chokes. It varies (modulates) the current to the choke heater to kick the choke off quickly when it's not needed, according to engine compartment temperature, which saves a lot of fuel. If it's left disconnected, the choke will open too slowly and you'll waste a lot of gas ($$). If it's bypassed out of the choke heater circuit, the choke will open too quickly and you'll have cold-engine driveability problems. I am a big fan of forgetting the rinky-dink nonadjustable factory choke and installing a fully-adjustable Electric choke kit.
