Last night I was driving my truck and snap! the motor went silent. So does anyone have an idea what would cause the timing chain to break and all the teeth to shear off of the crank gear in 5000 mi?
Also can anyone tell me if this is an interfirence engine,my cam has .460 lift.I may try a used set to do a compression test today

Its not an interference motor.

Until you have a new chain you wont be able to do a compression check.

Sounds like the cam stopped turning and the crank kept goin'

What does the OPDG look like?

Any bent pushrods?

Its a melling timing set. I put a used set on yesterday and the compression is good and it also pumps oil.but I will pull the distributor plug and check the gears.I'm just wandering what would cause the failure. Ill post picture soon

have you drain the oil to see were all the metal from the gear is? if it`s in the sump the pan is going to have to be flushed out.

A friend's Cheby ate the timing set and hurt the damper when the crank broke.

I agree with Slantzilla, something else is wrong and caused the timing chain to fail.Either the oil pump or cam bearings are bad.
