I am pretty new to the world of slants and would appreciate your input. What options to I have to put dual exhaust on my 225? It is in a 65 barracuda. |

you can put a dual on it but it is not nessesary. I bought a set of headers from Clifford Performance and had a custom exhaust made for it. It has dual to the cat. then a single 2'' all the way back. Make sure you have a high starter location on your bell housing. Mine is a low starter so I had to modify the headers. Big head ache. |

Do a search on this topic; I did just yesterday and the consensus is there IS no consensus! Some favor Dutra duals with a "y" pipe channeling into a single exhaust. Others say headers are the way to go. As for me, the truck I have already had a new true dual exhaust system that had not been installed, just sitting in the bed and looking pretty. So for me it's a no-brainer; install the exhaust and add dual Dutra duals, make lots of noise and annoy the neighbors like they do me every morning. For what it's worth, on your application I'd run Dutra duals to a "y" pipe into a single 2.25" exhaust all the way out back and use a turbo-style muffler. But it's your car, do what ya want. |

If you're going racing very fast, get headers. If you're driving on the street and/or doing occasional performance driving, get Dutra Duals. If you're looking for optimal flow and performance, you run a "Y" pipe into a thoughtfully-sized single system. If you're looking for maximum snarly noise, you run dual pipes all the way back. See this thread (and many others like it all over the internet Moparsphere) before you take a chance on giving Clifford any money. |

Thanks for all the useful info. Does Doug still make these or do I need to find a used set and someone willing to part with them? Quote: I have Hooker headers on my Swinger and connected to a true dual exhaust to the rear bumper
Do you have any pics of them installed? How do you like them?

I had one pipe split into duals. Nice sound. When I put the headers on I drove it one day then added a crossover pipe.

I will try and get some pics today, they are a little loud when you get on it but not bad at cruise.Am considering a H pipe. |

Do you have a good shot of how low the headers hang down? |

For what is worth department: When I purchased my car last winter it was equipped with Clifford intake & headers. These Items don't lend them selves to cool and cold weather drivability, the car was real cold blooded, and below 35 degrees carburetor ice became a problem at times. Also had to use an electric choke cuppled to a thermister to better controll choke opening on the old Holley 390. To remedy the drivability problem I made a hydronicly heated hot spot under the carburetor. I have dual exhaust with no cross over pipe & Thrush mufflers, and it makes a nasty aggressive sound when opened up... Dutra Duals will provide heat as a stock manifold dose, and a factory choke can be used thus making them a bit more daily driver friendly. ![]()

Thanks for the info and the pics! Down here it hardly ever gets below 35. If it does in is only for a day or two. My email is Jimpiburnatyahoodotcom |
