Mike spent a lot of time on the engine dyno this winter. He found a little here and a little there, but also found out that some stuff that should really make a difference doesn't.

Valves were not tested. Big valves are not legal in Mike's class. Yes, they will check. He will be torn down sometime this season, maybe twice depending on his luck.

Possum, he will be at Great Bend, Kansas. He will probably get there Thursday to park, and race Friday, Saturday, and hopefully Sunday. :D

Great Bend Kansas!!! GBHS 1982

I used to help my friend with his 65 dart there(86-92).I was the pit crew/beer tester.. It was alot of fun-- the track is an old air strip---- #20 qualifier has a backyard full of 68-74 mopar stuff -- mainly cudas--- not for sale..(hemi parts also)

Rumor was that he lost 12 pounds on that car by drilling out the bolts---
He is a very large guy -- the 12 pounds would be much easier for him to lose that the bolts!!

cool stuff-- Lawrence

Better conditions today and Mike jumped up to #3 qualifier!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He went 1.31 under on his last pass which was good enough to set the national record for V/SA, but since he would have to go through teardown tonight, outside, in the rain, he decided to not accept the record.

I talked to him on the phone and he was as happy as a little girl.

Unfortunately, 1st round tomorrow he gets one of his engine customers.

Wow, that is totally cool. Going 14.85 in that brick with a BBD and stock valves/cam is also quite a feat. Weight of car?

Lou, IIRC, the car is around 3150#. He was a lot heavier but he lobbied the NHRA for a horsepower reduction and got to take weight out. It's still a tank though.

That would be a stock LIFT cam. Duration is not checked anymore. I do know that Mike's cam does have less than allowed lift. :?

I tease Mike all the time about hiding nitrous and a trans brake, but I can guarantee you that this car is absolutely legal. :D

When Mike called yesterday he said that if I was there with him to help we would have torn down. We would have, rain or not.

I am guessing he will take the record next time he gets good air.
