My Cigarette lighter/ ash tray lamp has been hanging from the dash so long during the restoration I forgot how to reinstall it. All I know is it has a hole in the bracket for a screw and does not have to be grounded to turn on. It comes on when you pull on the headlights. How does it install? See the three pics below. ![]() ![]() ![]() Is this really for the ash tray area? |

That clip is not to hold the ashtray lamp. These hold wires that run along the bottom edge of dash between center of car to passenger's kick panel. There must be some bracketry above or to the side of the ashtray that that lamp slipes into. |

wjajr, I agree this wire is not for the ash tray area. The orange and black wires come out the wire harness that run along the bottom lip of the dash. The two wires are only eight or nine inches long and I think this has something to do with the heater/air/defroster switch that sits above the radio. Just hoping someone knows for certain before I take the radio out again to put this lamp back in place. |

Fortunately, I did not have to remove my ash tray housing, radio, and the temperature control unit again just to install this bulb. So I removed my glove box, reached in the opening to disconnect my right defroster duct and unscrewed the nut that holds the temperature control unit to the backside of the dash. I popped the bulb into the opening that is the for light on the far right-handed side of the temperature control and fan motor unit. The L-shaped bracket slide over the post next to the bulb opening and once the nut was reinstalled, the bracket was held tight. After everything was put back together, I had a nice blue light on my temperature/fan control unit. I guess my 74 Dart did not come with a light for the ash tray. I believe it is a bullet shaped metal socket with a bulb about the size of a 22 bullet and slides into the upper right side of the metal ash tray housing. Anybody have one for sale? |
