Hey all.. I was just wondering if anyone has any input on whats going on with my truck. heater hoses are getting really hot and the temp is staying on the cool side. I just replaced the thermostat and I drilled a real small hole in it so it wouldnt get an air pocket. The water pump is original i think? (i havent replaced it). The radiator is original too i think? If u guys have any input lemme know what u think it is. hoping its not the water pump but i'm leaning towards it.

Are all the hoses feel hot , I know my heater hoses are really hot when running , if your gauge is correct then nothing should be wrong. If you have an infrared thermometer check all of your hoses that way. Just my thoughts Dave |

well, thats what i'm not sure of. I dont know for sure if the gauge is working properly. I'de almost say its not working right because its 2 lines up from cold. Whats ur truck usually run at? |

Mine usually runs a little less than half.Maybe change your sending unit for the gauge, but make sure it is of good quality ,like a standard. That eliminates one thing , and does not cost toomuch. Dave |

Mr. Perkins, Those hoses get too hot to hold and will burn the heck out of your bare arm. I now have two different gauges (head and thermo housing) and had one in the radiator too. Very useful to watch things come to life with. I run all day long at 170 degrees once thermostat opens..try putting your hand in 170 degree water (NO DON"T) but that is why the hoses are so hot. Put your hand on top and bottom of radiator core and/or squeeze bottom radiator hose to see if circulation is occurring. I do leave the heater control valve open to ciculate until weather is just too hot, too. To add some more gages for one, just drill and tap the thermostat housing to fit whatever sensor comes with a gage, and another in the head where the stock sensor is, or use the existing one and correlate it with a lab thermometer to whatever new gage you put to it. rock /64d100 |
