Hi there,

This weekend I restarted the 225 / 904 after a few months being stop and I forgot the trans had leaked almost all of oil (must have been 2-3 liters left inside).
So I started it and revved the engine just a couple of times but of course nothing happened when I put in drive (I assume it's because it was out of oil) or Reverse or anything for that matter.

Did I risk to brake sthing by doing so?

Oh and BTW, the converter was also empty (changed engine/trans so converter was flushed).

Briefly no... but get some juice in there stat! If it is completely dry, you will need around 8 quarts.

Mine blew its trans fluid line about 100 yards from a napa, by the time I got in the parking lot it was no go. Bought supplies, borrowed tools, re filled it and it has run fine ever since. You should be OK. At least you didn't leave a huge puddle and trail of tranny fluid thru town.

the way that I learned to properly fill a trans, (yeah I know someone will have a different take) is to put a few qts in and fire up the engine in neutral; put it into Drive and continue filling til you feel the car start to pull; then back to neutral and finish filling til it reads "full". so no, if your trans was OK before you started it, it should still be fine.

Dangerous as in how?? I of course make sure I have someone in the car standing on the brake; and not "giving it gas" either; the person inside the car can "feel" it starting to pull against the applied brakes. Now doing this by one's self, would be dangerous!

What were you told is the point of this dangerous "fill it in Drive" routine? Looks to me as if it's good for quickly adding a lot of wear to the transmission pump and endangering people and property near the car (and the car itself), and not much else. Just look up the capacity and put that much fluid in, or if you're not doing a complete drain (as on a lockup-equipped vehicle with no torque converter drain) use a graduated drain pan so you can tell how much fluid you drained, then put in slightly less than that amount and bring it up to the correct level from there, with the engine idling and the transmission in Neutral.
