Post subject: | Header Wrap |
I tried something novel. I read the instructions on the can of DEI Sealer for the header wrap. It says to cure at 400°F That's all fine and good, but the dual dutra headpipe I built won't fit in the oven, and even if it could, I don't think being beaten to within an inch of my life by a crazed woman for sticking it in there is going to fly. Any thoughts on the curing process? I think I'm stuck with ambient curing for this. Good enough, or do I need to create a curing chamber and employ my turkey fryer burner? CJ |

Do you have a heat gun you can stick in the pipe? |

Wouldn't running the engine do the trick? |

The heat gun got things nice and warm, but I'm not sure how "Hot" It got. Certainly not 400° with an ambient temperature of 60° in the shop. I let the heat gun run for about four hours. Tonight I'll mount the head pipe up and then fire the Engine for a bit. Not hot, just put a bit of heat to it, then let it soak. Battle of Detroit on Saturday at Woodburn! That's a fun race! The High School series is also going on that day, so the track will be hopping. Gotta get this crate moving! CJ |

Tightened everything down tonight, and took a little drive. The engine compartment is considerably cooler. The sound level in the car dropped remarkably. In the engine compartment it's considerably quieter also. An added benefit! When I was tightening the head pipe to the rear dual, the wrench came down on the wiring harness. I knew I was in trouble right then and there. My temperature gauge doesn't work anymore. At least I know what happened. Time to run a new wire. Dang. CJ |

I have a Dutra manifold, and a modified manifold under the hood of my Volare. Would I see any benefit if I wrapped these manifolds? This is a daily driver, not a race car. Thanks for ya'll's opinions! |
