Post subject:  Ballast Resistor Wiring

Hello All, I have a 75 Scamp Slant 6. I bought a new ballast resistor and am unsure of which way the plugs go back on it. I know the plugs are keyed a certain way but it seems that if you twist the plugs around and turn the resistor 180 degrees that you can hook them up differently. Can someone tell me what color wires go on each end of the High Side (5.6 Ohm) and what goes on the Low Side (1.7 Ohm)? Thanks for the help, the wiring diagrams helped but it didn't show which side was which.

Also if you can tell me which side is the Primary and which side is the Compensating side? I may have these terms wrong. One side is for starting and one is for running right?

The primary side is the lower resistance and should have the same brown wire as the coil +. This resistor is used while running and is bypassed during cranking. The compensating side is the higher resistance, is necessary only for the old 5-pin ignition module and is used full time.

Thanks Joshie, does it matter what color wire sits opposite of the single brown wire on the primary side?

The ignition switch side of the ballast resistor is common (wired together) so they see the same voltage. They should be the same color wore as well.
