Post subject: | Hello and a quick question - 3-speed trans compatibility |
Hello, I just bought a 1964 Valiant, made in Switzerland (that's a question for another time) - reminds me of my last Valiant, which I had to send to the junkyard in 1982. It's in great shape and condition, except the 3-speed manual transmission is shot. I have a chance to buy a 3-speed manual from a 1967 Plymouth - dont know what model. Sorry for the quick question, I don't have time to search out the info - are there any warnings about compatiblity between '64 and '67, engine/clutch mountings, and between models? Thanks, |

'64 should have a Ball and Trunion front U-joint. The '67 should have a slip yoke and regular Spicer (cross and roller) U-joint. because of the the transmissions will not directly interchange. You should be able to bolt the '67 directly to the '64 bellhousing and transmission mount, but the driveshaft will need to be changed. |

Pretty sure the speedo cable connection at the trans is different, also. |
