If I were to buy a reman distributer (for my HEI conversion from lean burn)?

There is no chance of me picking up one at a junkyard (checked car-part.com: closest hit 2 states away, next closest hit 4 states away. By the time I pay for shipping I'm at or over the reman price, for what is essentially a core.)

What if I just treat a reman as a core (replace the springs, reluctor, pickup, gear, bushing etc. prior to installing, which I'd most likely do with any junkyard one, anyway)? Is there anything that can happen during remanufacturing that would not be detectable by examining upon purchase, and not be resolved by upgrading the soft parts listed above? I'm doing a planned upgrade, not a repair, so it's not like I can't afford the time associated with returning or rejecting bad distributors.

I sent an email to Northwest (sic). I have yet to hear back.

I checked ebay. I saw only one and it looked like it was stored in a sunken submarine since new.

I put up an ad on 'parts wanted' if nothing else pans out (It seems like at some point there is going to be a shortage of electronic ignition distributors. People are using them as upgrades for both the early and the late versions of the motor, as well as replacements for the vehicles they were intended for)

Does anybody sell distributor rebuild kits? (I've only seen the individual parts listed above. I've never seen a packaged set like you could get for a carb, etc.)

Any info is greatly appreciated.

I have used a few remans with no troubles. It's been 5 yrs or more, though.
