Post subject:  Sunpro super tach II, doesn't read zero

I just got a mini, 2 1/5 inch, Sunpro tachometer at a swap meet, used. When I got home I realized the needle is at about 1000 rpm. I have not hooked it up yet but want to know if you guys think I bought a piece of junk or will it work OK on my Slanted tower of power?

Air core movement instruments won't necessarily rest at zero. Hook it up and see if it goes to zero when the ignition is on. If it does you're probably OK, but this is likely a standard magnet core movement which should rest at zero.

I think it is fine, just that it needs power.

Mine will sit at different spots depending on the rpm you turn off the ignition at.
Just turn it back on, and it goes to 0

Make sure the tach is set for 6 cyl operation, or it will read low, if set for 8 cyl, or read high if set for 4 cyl.
