| Post subject: | Sloppy steering |
I need some help with my steering and thanks to Dan I think I'm now posting in the proper area of the board. The steering wheel has about 4 inches of play in it setting in Park with the engine off. Pretty squirrelly to drive at high speeds. This is a '64 Valiant Signet 200 convertable with power steering. I've ordered the shop manual for my car but until it arrives; How do I take this slop out? Is it the adjustment nut on top of the p/s gearbox? Is there somewhere else to make an adjustment? Thanks in advance for all your help. |

Make sure all your steering linkage components are in good condition, and see this thread for info on adjusting the steering box. |

definitly check all the linkage. my idler arm was so slopping when I bought my 64 that the centerlink went up and hit the oil pan before moving laterally. adjusting the box only does so much on a 40+ year old car. call up firm feel and get a rebuilt one or rebuild it yourself. |
