Post subject: | Door handle not working properly |
Over the last week or so my drivers side door button hasn't been releasing the door so I can open it. It takes about a minute worth of trying for it to finally engage and open the door. Anyone know what could be going on? Thanks. |

You are going to have to pop off the door panel, and take a good look at the linkage, & latch to see what is disconnected, worn, or missing / broken plastic parts. While in there give the latch a good flushing with WD 40 to remove 30 years of dirt, and dried grease & oil. Just ball up a rag & place it inside the door under the latch before squirting. In case you were wondering why not carburetor, or brake cleaner, WD 40 won't remove paint, and eat rubber door gaskets. Sometimes after a good cleaning these devices will work properly, sometimes they are just worn out. If by chance your are not able to latch your door after messing with the latch: check to see if while the door is open the latch is in the closed position. If this is the case, just take a screw driver and move the latch lever to the open position as the latch post or strike would while operating the exterior door handle. Tip #2: And, this is big, make sure the other door is unlocked... |

I've heard jokes about Tip #2 but they involved a convertable. At least roll the windows down. Joe |
