Well like a lot of old cars the original wiring on Ryan's dart is kind of brittle. While working on the dash lights I guess we hit the wire for the clutch interlock switch ( Not sure of the proper name) and it broke off of the switch. It looks as though it broke off inside the switch. So we will order a new switch for it. But can this be temporarily by-passed somehow. I know the older 4 speed cars did not have the switch at all.

I wouldn't really care but he wanted to take the car and start driving it to put some miles on it before the Mason-Dixon Race.

Thanks,
Rick

If it's a two-wire switch, just connect the two wires together. If it's a one-wire switch, connect the one wire to ground.

It's linked to the solenoid under the hood, find the prong and wire that one to a screw into the firewall...

Just make sure to put the tranny in neutral before you crank, if you forget property damage or injury to the guy under the hood may result....

That's simple enough. I thought it could just be grounded but wanted to double check.

Thanks,

Rick

Ok,

Grounded the wire and no go. Pulled the broken wire out to the engine compartment and grounded directly to the battery and still no go.

This wire is green on the starter relay and has a plug about 12" away where it turns light yellow or tan and went in to the clutch switch. The other small wire on the starter relay is a tan or yellow and does not have any current coming to it when I turn the switch to the start position. I'm guessing it should have?

Well so much for simple. Where do I go next?

Rick (electrically challenged)

Yes, it should. It activates the relay to send voltage through the brown wire to the starter. Check at the Ign. switch and the plug between the relay and switch.

Are you talking about the main wiring harness plug at the firewall?

Thanks

I think so but I’m not sure. The wiring diagram just shows a plug. Any plug(s) will be a place to check for lost voltage if the ignition switch checks out good.

Well I undid the wire loom and traced the small wire from the relay back to the firewall and inserted the test light there. Tried the switch and I had juice. That's good. I guess it was just a bad connection at that plug. I had to push pretty hard to get the test light in there and that must have moved the wire enough to make contact. Thanks for your help.

Oh yeah, Is there any place better than another to get the new switch from? I'm sure Dan will have the answer. :) Thanks Dan

Me, I would leave the switch out of the car altogether.

Yeah, I think it will just stay disconnected.

Thanks, Rick
