Post subject:  1985 head

i am currently building a 225 s six for a 74 plymouth scamp . i have a head from a 1985 dodge truck. would this head work with the 1974,225 & would there be any advantage in using this head. thanks

The 1985 head will fit, but you'll either need to put a hydraulic cam, lifters and pushrods into the block or replace the non-adjustable rocker assembly on the late head with one meant for solid lifters. There may be another work-around, but these two are all that come to mind.

As far as advantages, the only one that comes to mind is not needing to adjust your valve lash.

As far as disadvantages, you're more limited as far as spark plug selection goes with the late "peanut plug" head. If you convert to a hydraulic lifter set-up, your cam choices also go down the toilet.

The late head will be a bolt-on if you use your old rockers, and use the valve cover and rear rocker shaft bolt from the new head.

There is no real advantage, but there is no disadvantage either.
