Does anyone have a technique that can be done at home using readily available tools to remove the old pistons from the rods?

Failing that, how is this normally done? Press frame? Do you need a special tool to push the pin through the piston/rod?

Does my local auto parts store have the tools to do it?

to press them apart usually there is no heed payed toward saving the piston so its done in a press, to put them together the small end of the rod is heated up and the wrist pin is slid in and lined up very quickly. to press out you could use a long bolt and a socket to make a puller,I made one for small engines out of bushings
