I just finished the super six swap on my 225 slant 6. Alum. intake with carter bbd 2bl. Intake welds were ground down and sealed prior to painting. Carb was professionaly rebuilt and egr is plugged. I have 17lbs of vaccum at the intake port. The car runs great super throttle response and much better power and torque. My question is the carb seems to be sucking in lots of air even with the air cleaner on. I put on the Mopar Performance air cleaner. Also headers were added at the same time. Thanks, Bill |

What exactly do you mean when you say the carb "seems to be sucking in lots of air even with the air cleaner on"? |

Decoding - Decoding OK yes there might be a leak somewhere in the induction system. Try spraying carb cleaner around possible points of leakage eg. carb base throttle shafts and so on - a stumble or drop in rpm will indicate the presence of a leak |

Dan, Sorry about that I should have been more clear. It has more of a hissing sound not so much sucking a lot of air in. I'm new to this so please be patient on my rough explanations. It makes the same sound with or without the air cleaner. When the 1bbl. was on the car it would make the same noise when breather hose from the valve cover to the air cleaner was taken off. So thats why I mentioned the Mopar Performance air cleaner whicn has no breather hose connected to it. The valve cover currently has a sealed (no hose coming from it) breather cap. You have an "unsilenced" air cleaner on there now. One quick check is stick your finger over the throttle shaft on the passenger side before it gets to hot. See if it still makes the sucking sound. It will also make that sound if the accelerator pump doesn't give a good shot. It will momentarily go lean. |

There may or may not be something the matter with the carburetor or its installation. Carburetor operation and repair manuals, some training movies, and adjustment instructions are posted here for free download. |
