I changed my starter relay with a standard sr112 . It cranked right up and ran for a few seconds ,then the idle got lower and lower then it cut off. I tried to start it again, and it cranked but didn't fire up . I swapped back the old relay and the same.(I changed it because the batt. blade was about to break off.) The battery, alternator, coil, hei, and starter have good voltage.
The red wire for the relay has the same voltage. but the others that go to it does not, I am not sure how the starter relay works.
Any response is appreciated

Thanks
Dave

The starter relay is not causing your problem. Its only job is to send power to the starter when the key is in the "Start" position. Sounds like the original relay is working...why the change?

Dan,
I changed it because the post for the red wire was about to break off.
Any ideas why it will not fire up?

Dave

Fuel, ignition, compression, timing. That's all that will keep the engine from starting.

OK, that's a good reason to change the relay, but there's some other fault (fuel, ignition, electrical) that's preventing the engine running. Time for some step-by-step diagnosis. Check for spark, check for fuel, go from there.
