I am going to go out on limb and say yes - they can use the same dizzy Broadly speaking you had points and Electronic triggers, smog dizzies and so on - race types with no vacuum advance, and adjustable and nonadjustable vac advance all over the place BUT in Oz you also had Bosch and Chrysler Dizzies of both types.. According to application advance curves differs Best Dizzy - my opinion - Chrysler electronic early to mid seventies with lighter primary spring, and adjustable vac can |

Okeh, folks, let's all have a nice cup of tea and a sit-down. 68Barracuda: You didn't need to bite his head off. It's not what you said, but how you said it; nobody likes to be dressed down in public. I'm sure your new baby is straining nerves at your house — they do that — but I'm also sure you didn't mean to whack Ganymede quite so hard right out of the box, right? Ganymede: Your question was too vague for a good answer. If you wanted to know about the physical interchangeability of slant-6 distributors, you'd've had a better answer by saying so in the first place. It would only have taken maybe five or ten more words than you used; very easy. 68Barracuda's answer was quite accurate, but you hadn't asked exactly what you wanted to know, and nobody likes to feel as though his time was wasted in answering a question. This site does not have PMS (THAT'SNOTFUNNY!!!!  ), but if you ask a vague question it's really hard for those who want to help you to do so.

There are several variants every year made depending on the engine, tranny, emissions, etc... All the body's fit (points, EI, ESC) regardless of year... The hold down changed about 1979...previously they were a plate with a slot, then they went to the style like the Big Block have with a bolt and a "claw" to hold down a collar type plate... Roughly Points Dizzy's are found up to about 1972-ish (depends on application), as guts go, they do not have adjustable spring stops to adjust timing. EI came into being for the 1973 model year and was gone 7 years later in most cars, and 10 years later in some trucks/vans...ESC with fixed timing coupled to a timing computer phased in around that time... there are several variants of timing in the EI distributors....the most recommended "stock" dizzy is the 1976 standard dizzy with the 11R governor, and not far behind it is the 1977-1980 super six distributor with the 9R governor...the 1973-1975 dizzy is an ok start for a stock motor. If you have a 'bad' dizzy and are replacing it with another one of like type (point to point, EI to EI), then set engine to TDC on the #1 cylinder and install with rotor pointing to #1 tower then give it a try.... I like the correct term for the part. No dizzys. boon dogs. bluupers. Please the correct name. What if I said I had a flymo going bad and need a speadfro to fix it.
