I have 2 904's, an early cable(in the car) and an older column(out of the '72). What I need to know is if the valve bodies can be swaped.

I also have a strange shudder in all mid ranges except kickdown and have adjusted the bands. I was told it's time for a full rebuild(clutches).?!
Any help would be great...

From what I see those parts are in the lock up converter transmissions. Both of the ones you say you have don't have lock up converters.

That's the jist of what I got too and did not think they were lock-up either. So the shudder is clutches for sure or could it be a matter of line pressure? Auto's are all new to me....

You got a good book on that PDF. Follow the tear down they give in the order that they do in the book and keep things CLEAN. You should have no real problems rebuilding. Keep all parts in order that they come out of the transmission (lots of them look alike). Order a master rebuild kit it will have all the clutch disks and new steel plates. :)
With a lot of doing you will save yourself a bunch of $$$

Valve bodies cannot be swapped, between a cable shift trans and a linkage shift trans. Also just a FYI, the 72 trans cannot be bolted up to the 60-67 engines, without a custom torque converter.

If it is shuddering while moving are you sure you don't have u-joint issues?

What does the fluid in the trans look like? If it is not burnt it may not be the trans anyway.

The trani is fresh and clean inside, did a filter and band adjustment. After some reading around, it may be a U-joint... I'll get back to you guys.

So come to find out it is the clutches.. I was planning a rebuild here soon when the engine is being built. I just wanted to be able to drive it in the mean time.

So now my question is how or where do I shop for a PB 904 rebuild kit?
All I see around are '70 something and newer kits...
