Post subject:  Eddy carb question.
I am hoping someone can confirm or point me in the right direction. I know Holley's very well, but have almost no Eddy carb experience. Friend complains of a hesitation when pulling out into traffic and say the engine seems like it going to stall. Problem has been getting worse over time.
It has this carb shown below.
If I move the throttle I would think the accel pump should spray with any throttle increase. I can move it about a 3/8" before the shooter shoots. During this time it seem to hesitate. If I preload the accel pump shaft with my finger to take out a little linkage slack it seems better.
My thoughts are that the accel pump needs rebuilt. I doesn't look as if this is very easy on this model.

Sounds like an accelerator pump issue. They can be adjusted to change the stroke, but if it's been getting progressively worse, it likely needs a new pump.

Edelbrock used to have website access to the tuning manual and excellent e-mail help from a tech advisor, but don't know if they still do.

If the carb needs a rebuild, it's a simple job.

I should have test drove the Jeep before trying to diagnose the problem based on the customers description.
Yes there is a hesitation just off idle, but there's more. Take off from a stop sign and there is a hesitation that repeats itself over and over again with the throttle held steady. It will continue this way from 0-40 mph (thats when I let off) I've never seen anything like it before. It feels like I am pumping the throttle from closed to 25% once every .75 - 1 second. Makes your head jerk back and forth. Doesn't do it all the time but dose it almost all the time. 8 out of 10 times. 3/4 to full throttle shows no problems and is nice and smooth. At first I thought it was ignition cutout but it doesn't seem to be.
Ever seem anything like this. I think he has been living with the off idle hesitation and didn't no that could be fixed or that it was a problem, but this bucking is a real problem.
I think I need a little crash course on this type of carb.

I just kitted mine a few weeks back and I'm here to tell you these carbs are way easy to work on. The Eddy rebuild kit has very good instructions/diagrams which are "stupid old man" simple(that would be me).
My reasons for rebuilding were a bit different than your's but I did find lots of "black gas" inside from not using 30R9 fuel line.Also found floats set much to high which makes me wounder if they hammer themselves out of adjustment or Vic didn't set'um right at the factory.
Anyway don't be skered of these carbs,they are so user friendly and easy to tweak it'll put a :) on your face.

The last new Edelbrock I installed on my '73 D100 exhibited lean surge from day one. An e-mail to the Edelbrock techs with a description of the engine build and the truck's useage, brought a suggestion to change metering rods. I ordered the rods they suggested and the issue was resolved.
