Post subject:  Getting technical about part numbers...

Recently bought a mirror for my 1974 Satellite off ebay. The part number in the ad is correct for my car so I thought "No problem". I receive the mirror in the mail and the part number that is on the box it came in is correct for my car, but the numbers on the base of the mirror don't match. Now is there a part number on the mirror body itself(versus one that might be on the mounting base) that I can use to verify I didn't get ripped off ? Or should the number on the base of the mirror match what it calls for in my Mitchell manual sheets ? Thanks

Casting numbers are usually not the same as part numbers.

Thats kind of what I was wondering, Dan. I looked up the part numbers for a mirror that I removed from a parts car and know was original to that car and the number of the mirror is not what the Mitchell guide says it "should" be. Would the only true identifying number be on the original box that the part came in? Thanks Dave

Mitchell guide = 3rd-party book = errors and lack of updates. Use the factory parts catalogue.
