Post subject:  A-body Door Hinges: Interchange?

Greetings from the edge of underneath the mountain of stress and work created by the death in my family.

Anyone ever take a close look at '63-'66 vs. '67-'76 A-body door hinges to determine if the later hinges can be used on the early cars? I don't have hinges to hold in the hand and check, all I have is pics on the web, which are never taken from the same angle, but make it look as if the newer hinges might fit the older cars.

The hinges on my '64 Dart aren't worn such that the doors sag, but the check springs (the J-bend/U-bend items) are too weak to hold the doors fully or partly open, which is a damnuisance I want to fix as quickly as possible.

Suggestions (including incantations, spells, charms or sacrifices) welcome. This is a nice car, but it needs a great deal of odd repair work to complete half-done refurbishment by the previous owner. Beautiful NOS upholstery material carefully fitted over sagged and shot front seat springs and foam. Nice new windshield gasket and lockstrip surrounding old windshield all sandblasted to heck. New trunk gasket; crumbling door gaskets and cat whiskers. Hrrr? Weird. Distributor worn almost out and vacuum advance blown, heat riser doesn't work therefore choke doesn't work and is slacked all the way off...for all this, it runs surprisingly well.

Thats a tough one Dan... You would think that with Chrysler using the same parts for years, there might a later hing that will work. At the least they may need to be re-bushed and new pins installed. There are some rebuild services out there, but they charge an arm and leg to do them. Last one I checked was over 100 bucks for one door on a B body. Anything in a Hollister interchange manual?

Post subject:  hinge spring

the u shape spring on the hinge broke on the 75 duster, and the
door would not stop on the stopper wheel.
so i brought it to a welder and it was welded with a thick wide bead and
so far several years it is still holding.
this may be helpful if a correct spare cannot be found right away.
