Hey all -

I have a couple of questions regarding the rear quarters on my 63 Dart.

From the factory, was the fender attached under the strip of trim on top of the quarter? And, where the quarter skin meets the door jamb, was this smooth from the factory?

Some guys have told me that the skin would have been folded over and tack-welded where it meets the door jamb. Today, a body guy did tell me that mine was factory (smooth, no visible tack-welds).

Anyone have any pics of how the factory original quarters are installed?

Yes,there is a seam underneath the chrome strip on top of the 1/4 panel and another leaded seam up high where the roof meets the 1/4 panel.The chrome strip was an easy way to cover the weld on the assembley line without having to lead the entire length of the seam but after 45 years they are prone to leak around the chrome and into the trunk area.
As far as the door jamb area goes,the jamb is stamped with 1/4 panel making them one unit instead of to peices like on some other models.My 63 Dart is like this and so is my wifes 63 Valiant as well as my 60 Valiant,but my Daughters 72 Valiant is two seperate peices at the jamb area so you shouldnt have a seam in the door jamb on your particular car.

Well that's phenomenal news - I was starting to think I had some sort of basket case based on what some guys were telling me. Now I see that I really do have a solid car - just a bit of rust to be cut away around the wheel openings and I'll probably get patch panels for those.

63Dart170, May I suggest Auto Body Specialties(google it) for your patch panels,that was what I used on my 63 Dart and they fit well,was made of heavy guage metal and the stamping was sharp and true to the factory panel.

I'm looking at that site now, and with the parts as good as you say, that's te best price I've found on those! When I have the body work done, I'll get 'em from there - Thanks a bunch for that reference!
