| Post subject: | Condenser Hose Stuck on Receiver/Drier |
Now that my engine is running and the body back together, I need to work on the a/c. I want to replace my receiver/drier, however as you look at the sight glass on the receiver/drier, the aluminum hose from the condenser comes into the receiver/drier from the right side and is held there by a bolt that slides over the condenser hose and screws into the receiver/drier just to the right of the sight glass. I had no problem loosening the bolt and sliding it to the right on the hose. My problem is now that the bolt is out of the way, I cannot pull the aluminum hose out of the metal receiver/drier. So far I have been really careful in my removal attempts. I have soaked the area where the two connect with Liquid Wrench. The aluminum hose will not come loose. It has been there 35 years and apparently is stuck. How do I get it unstuck without breaking/bending the hose? (I'm trying not to buy a new condenser.) Is heat an option? |

I have no experience with what you're up against but I do have some time using PB Blaster.Give it a try the stuff does work,just keep spraying the fitting down a few times a day,might take a few days but give it a chance. Worth a shot,good luck. |

I've had good luck with PB Blaster too; don't forget to tap the area for awhile after soaking it to help get it in there. Don't use too much heat; the aluminum won't like it. If you're replacing the drier anyway, maybe you can to consider using a Dremel tool with #409 cutting disks to saw the drier away from the line; I've found they cut hard steel quite well. Be sure to wear protective eyewear, as those disks are very brittle and shatter easily. |

The filter-dryer body is steel. The fitting is aluminum. These two metals can stick together but good. First, make sure you've actually released all the fasteners holding the hose to the filter-dryer. It sounds like you probably have, if it is a flat flange fitting held to the filter-dryer with a single bolt. If you have indeed removed the bolt, tap deliberately but carefully on the flange with a hammer and punch. A few reasonable raps ought to free the fitting from the dryer. But look extra-carefully to make sure the fitting hasn't actually got a threaded collar screwed onto or into the dryer body. |
