| Post subject: | Oil pressure drop on hard braking |
Hi guys, I have been lurking here for 6 months or so and you have been very helpful in fixing a 65 Valiant 170-3sp that I got for my daughter to drive. So far with your help I have rebuilt the brakes and wheel bearings, put new seals in everything from the transmission output back, pulled and flushed the gas tank, replaced the sender, rebuilt the gauge cluster including the solid state instrument voltage regulator and adjusting the fuel level indicator travel, replaced wiper pivots seals, rebuilt and rejetted the 1920 carb including the air bleed tweak, heat shield fab and install, electronic ignition (mopar) electronic voltage regulator conversion, pulled and relubed the blower motor, valve adjustment, and an engine flush. Not fixed yet is a huge oil leak at the rear main, some rod knock at certain engine speeds, and a headliner replacement. I have noticed that the oil light comes on solid under hard braking (clutch in). According to the aftermarket gauge that I installed, the oil pressure is generally very good. When the oil light comes on the gauge reads 20 psi. It seems possible that the gauge is not responding quickly. The oil level is good so I would be surprised if I am uncovering the pickup. Is there some other reason (a sloppy thrust bearing maybe?) that the oil pressure would be so sensitive to braking? |

How's the car's wiring? Old wiring does all kinds of funny stuff. |

The wiring is pretty good after replacing the fuse box. |
