I have been wanting to post a chronical of the progress so far on my project a 64 baracuda with a 198 slant. Finally getting to the point were things are starting to look a little better and not worst. Thought this would help modivate me to keep going. Want to have the car assembled by the end of the year and start working on th interior over the winter. My wifes birthday is in january and it will be her present if complete.

Bring the car home.

Purchased off craigs list in enid, OK not running and in ten year old primer with lots of surface rust and holy floor boards. Brought home and had running with a plastic gas tank in the floor boards and rear only brakes.

Started to tear her down
Greasy engine out

Image

Rebuit engine with super six conversion and v-8 carb. bored .60 over and one cylinder sleeved because of machining error. Head was shaved to raise compression to 8.7 and ports were cleaned up and gasket mached. Had a local guy grind a cam to increase lift to a little over stock.

Image

Rebuilt the 8 1/4" rear end with new gears and bearings bought a set of steel 2006 chyrsler 300 rims to fit the large bolt pattern on the new rear end.

Image

Started body work replaced the floor boards, spare tire well, lower passenger side quarter panel, rear quareter panel due to crash, and front hood due to rust from battery fumes I think.

Post subject:  more body work getting done

Here is some of the progress on the barracuda. Acid etching primer going on after sanding to bare metal, spot blasting, filler and block sanding. You can see the car has had its fair share of hail and abuse over the years. I actually thought the car was pretty straight when I bought it. I am getting sick of body work. I have the rear quarters and the little strip under the trunk where the key goes to finish. I never could understand why they charged so much for a good paint job. Now I know. Here are some pictures of the hanging fish meat. hope to have the rest in primer by end of next week.

Looks fantastic.

We had several Slant 6 midwest racers at Kearney, NE this weekend. I think there could be a Midwest division if we got some people out who have nice cars.

Car Looks good, lots of work but I can see you're doing an excellent job and it'll turn out A+! I'm still trying to get the front floor section in my '65 and the front of the cage rewelded, BUT...it all takes time AND patience...well done!

I think that would be alot of fun. My car should be ready for the road next spring if the money keeps flowing out of my pockets. I would really enjoy a meet in the midwest. I have yet to run into a slant person in Oklahoma.

I like the yellow paint I wanted Red, Yellow , or electric blue. But the wife and I decided on metalic red. I like the big and little tire combo di you have to tub the wells to get them in or do they just fit? Hey! I like your valve cover kinda looks like mine. great minds think alike.

I know Glen Terry (National Champ for last 2 yrs) is from OK originally. Brents are in Arkansas.

We'll keep you posted on the meet and good luck with the car assembly.
