1. Does anyone have experience with the 400 cfm carter AFB? I just saw 2 on Ebay and thought it might make a good choice for the slant. They look just like the Edlebrocks and I'm not a racer (YET!!) 2. Is the Mopar performance electronic upgrade kit with distributor and orange box a good chioce for a stock engine? Says it has a performance curve in it and I'm just starting to play with my slant, you know trying to wake it up some 3. Recomendations, Dutra Duals or Headers? Yes guy's Ive Been a member for several years but I'm just getting the chance to play with a slant |

Hello, I'm glad that your havin' fun with your slant. 1) I've never run a 4bbl carb on my slant, but Ive heard that the Carter 400 cfm is a good choice. The Holley 390 cfm 4bbl is favored by several slanters 2) I've heard the the Mopar orange box ECU is not a good choice. However, upgrading to electronic ignition from points is a good choice. 3) I've had Dutra Duals on my slant for several years, so I'm a little biased. My slant is a daily driver. Also, I feel good about supporting a fellow slanter! Some guys like headers, it's up to you. Have fun! |

The current batch of Orange boxes have not been so good...I'm running one that was off a car in the 90's and it's good for performance (read: you better have the need to see 4000 rpm + on your tach to use it). The MP distributor is set for "race only"...it won't be good for mileage, and the lack of springs means it's all in by 1200 rpm (so if you like max advance just off idle...)... if you do buy it , you'll be changing the springs or adding some to make it right... If you have a spare to send I can take the time to recurve one for you for some $, but I'll need some details on what you are driving (weight/car , rpms at cruise, vacc. reading at idle and cruise...carb, rear gear ratio, etc...) To make all of what you are intending work, you'll want to run 9:1 compression minimum, a bit more cam, and ditch the highway gearing for something more aggressive.... FYI, -D.Idiot |

Welcome on the board! Quote: Is the Mopar performance electronic upgrade kit with distributor and orange box a good chioce for a stock engine?
No, it's a poor choice. The "performance" advance curve dumps all the mechanical advance in just off idle. Very unsuitable for any kind of street usage. And the orange box is of poor quality and reliability. You can do much better.Quote: Recomendations, Dutra Duals or Headers?
How will you be using the car? Street or race? What kind of car is it?

The car right now is my sons '64 valiant 100 4 door. Came with 170 & 3 on tree, now its a 225. I've got 2-1965 valiant 100's both with 225's & factory a/c, 1 has an auto tranny and power steering the other has a 3 on the tree with manual steering. Neither one of my cars are ready for the road, I guess I'm using my sons car as the guinee pig |
