I know about the hyd. lifters and non-adjustable rockers on the later engine. '84 D100 has a burnt valve and I have access to a '68 225, a '62 170 and a '61 225 (I know about the sending unit as well) Can I put the early head on the late block? This is a "get me by" fix until the 360/727 goes in. |

You can use a mechanical head on a hydraulic block, but you need to changeover the camshaft and lifters to mechanical, and use mechanical pushrods. |

It's easier to just put the hydraulic valve gear on the older head and it works fine. |

I can slap it together in a couple of hours. if it doesn't work I'm not out anything but some coolant and a head gasket. |

The early head will go right on the late engine. Use the valve gear (pushrods, rockers, shaft) from the lare hydro engine. The only thing that might be an issue, would be the rear rocker shaft bolt. You will probably have to use the early bolt to fit the head, and if I remember correctly, the hole in the shaft is smaller (just the bottom), and will need to be drilled larger. You will also have to use the early valve cover. |

I did this swap back several years ago, I had to swap the rocker arms over to the '68 rocker arm shaft to get around messing with that bolt. worked great |
