Well...just went through my motor. Putting everything back together, and for the life of me can't remember where i put the dipstick. I have a mr. gasket universal replacement, but need to know where the marks for 'full' and empty' need to be.
70 d100 truck with 225.
I'm assuming put in 5.5 qts. mark a full line, and a 'low' line about 1,.25 down. I guess...EMPTY wouldn't show up on the stick...lol.

I have an 82 I could take measurements off of. However I do not know if it would be the same.

I think your 82 has the "mile long" van dip stick like my 84 had.

What I did when I shortened my dip stick was exactly what you descrbied: filled it with the amount of oil I normally would after a complete oil change, and mark the universal dip stick with a punch. Then I measured the length of the "add" section on the original stick, and made a correspinding mark on the universal stick.
Ta da!
