.040 overbore? I thought those didn't like much more than .020" over. Looks pretty nice though pricey.

0.040" over is the max on an aluminum block. This one's been bored to the max, meaning "end of the line" when this present build is worn out. :-\

Hard job especially with *thinwall* sleeves?

So what are the down sides of owning an aluminum 225? DO they have issues iron ones dont? Were aluminum heads ever offered? Pardon the newbie questions... I didn't think the price was too bad for what is there.

The scarce 1961-'63 aluminum 225 has lots of issues the iron block doesn't. Block corrosion is a major issue especially at this late date. Parts availability (special head gasket, special rear main seal parts, and a few others) can be difficult. It's got freestanding bore sleeves (open deck design) that makes the top end a great deal more difficult to seal up reliably, even with the special head gasket — much lower limits on compression and other performance increases for this reason. Assembly technique is much more critical. It's not a bad engine when properly built and maintained, and of course it's fun to have something rare, but for most people the ~80-pound weight savings isn't worth the extra expense, hassle, and difficulty.
