I want to convert a twisting bar /6 throttle to a cable operated throttle. I have a Super Six set up that I intend to install on my 64 Valiant. I have a V8 cable set up from Ebay. However, after inspecting the firewall, it seem that there is no alternate attachment points for the V8 hardware. Perhaps the 64 I have was built too early to have the V8 option. Has anyone converted the twist rod to a cable set up and has some idea where the gas pedal mechanism should mount on the firewall? My thanks in advance for your advice.

I have a 62 and my plan is to move the vacuum line that goes to the heater control so that is passes through the holes vacated by the rotating rod. I will then use the hole originally occupied by the vacuum line for the throttle cable. 2 holes will have to be drill to mount the pedal. The only problem that I see is that the pedal assembly from a mid 70s Duster is at the wrong angle and mounts to far forward. Another member fabricated a bracket to solve that problem. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it.

I found that mounting a '70s era hanging gas pedal on my '66 Dart was a bit of a challange. At first I made a crude adapter out of a piece of 2x4 wood, cutting it to match the contours of the floorboard on one side and screwing the pedal onto the other side (I drilled out the 2 threaded studs in the pedal assembly and used wood screws). Drilled a stepped hole in the wood to run the cable through. Worked fine - I may even have a few pics of the setup.

I later bolted the pedal assembly straight to the firewall, using thick washers on the lower bolt to get the proper angle of dangle. You'll probably need to experiment to get a good fit, and make sure that there's enough clearance under the pedal so that that the throttle opens all the way when you floor it.

The ideal solution is to fabricate a bracket (as dakight mentions). I plan to do this at some point, using a piece of box steel. But in the short term, a crude bolt-up with 2 bolts and some washers or spacers might do the trick.

Does anybody have pictures of this type of setup? I'm working on the same issue and I'm not sure where to mount the bracket for the dangling gas pedal. Are you using an existing hole in the firewall for the cable or drilling a new one?

It seems like there are a bunch of us trying to do the same thing. If anyone has pictures/drawings/visual aids it would be great.

The V8 and A/C equiped slant sixes had a cable pedal assy in 66. I dont know what other years did, Maybe SS Dan knows.

The firewall was changed in '64 ½ to accommodate the V8 and factory air, especially for the new Barracuda.

You must have an early ‘64.

I have put in a throttle cable in place of a twist version (62 lancer). I used the same hole. I got a new pedal out of a 70' something scamp and made a small bracket to mount it to. If you dont mind hanging up side down measuring and fitting and remeasuring..its not that bad..be sure your cable is a straight as possible with no hangups. (a sticky throttle is not a good way to wake up)...also a bracket of some sort is needed to hold the other end of the cable on the carb side. get the pedal set up ....then measure the leanth of cable needed..your auto part store will have the one you need.
