The spacer is one of the reasons green bearings have a bad reputation. Leaving it in will cause a bearing failure from the extra side loading.

If you switch the axles out to green bearings do you actually need the Center spacer any more? My locker has a center spacer that is connected to itself on the other side vial a spring and the spring broke so when you pull the axles out the center spacer falls out.. it's a pain to deal with. Just wonder if I will actually need it If I go Green with the bearings? Greg |

My thrust button is held together with a roll pin. You do not need the thrust button with Green bearings. |

Okay Good. Maybe it is a rool pin in there but it sheared off making it look like a spring coil. Thanks, Greg |

Guys, I have just discovered I have Green bearings in the Slantkota. I am putting in a new suregrip chunk. It still has the spacer in the old chunk and apparently has been working fine. How do I get the spacer block out?? It sounds like I pound out a roll pin that goes through the spacer along the axle axis? Thanks very much, Lou |

Lou, That's exactly right. If you drive the roll pin through the two buttons will be free and will come right out. Your next step is to mail the two buttons and roll pin to me as I'm missing them from one of my 3rd members!

Update: This is a cone-style SG diff and it looks like one side of the thrust block has no hole down the middle. It has been run with another chunk for 10-20k miles with a thrust block in it. I may just stick some playdough in there and make sure there is no side loading. Thanks for your input, Josh. I may try to pop it out. Other thoughts? Dennis seems pretty adamant about taking this out. Lou |

Lou, look at the ends of the axles and see if they are polished from the block. If they are, I would figure out how to remove it.

OK, I made some measurements and put some grease on the end to see, and I was able to put it all together without load on the bearings/clips from the block. Slantkota now has a suregrip so I can hook it up at Wilkesboro this weekend... Thanks again, Lou |

Using the standard A body BBP Moser axles and their green bearing (MO400), you also must remove this spacer (or buttons). I have recently learned that you can request Moser to cut the axles a little shorter to allow the spacer to stay in the diff. I'm going through this now, putting the axles in the other day I felt that the bearings had too much side preload on them, so I started researching it.
