Post subject:  Engine Paint??
Hi looking for some reviews/suggestions

I am getting ready to paint my slant chrysler blue.
Can't decide between duplicolor engine enamel chyr blue
or POR15 chrysler blue.

Both seem nice, The POR15 you can brush on.
Anyone have any suggestions/ideas/ info you can share with me?

I have used the POR-15. It is a little lighter in color but is extremely durable and has a nice glossy finish. The Dupli-color is brighter but not as durable. If you want a long lasting show type finish, got with the POR-15.
Another thing, the POR-15 is easier to clean over time and is resistant to most all cleaners.

thanks! seems like POR15 is the way for me. did you brush it on or spray?

did you use the por15 on your dart? just saw your website, nice lookin car.

also when you did it, did you use the paint right over the engine, OR use the kit clean it all,use regular por15, then paint over that?

Hi,

Thanks! :D It is a work in process.

I used the three step process POR-15 recommends. Marine clean, then the Metal Ready primer, then their paint depending if it's the engine, rear end, frame or exterior. I use a brush and or roller. It will flow out flat with a brush.

I have been bringing this car and body back from the dead. I found it sitting under a huge fir tree and the needles had clogged every drain hole in the car. The trunk looked like a fish pond, the engine oil looked like a milk shake. Well that was 250,000 miles ago and three rear ends later plus one engine rebuild. It has 403,000 on it now with the same 904. I drive it hard and about 130 miles a day. Hopefully, if the weather holds out this summer it will get a coat of the POR-15 Light yellow Hardnose Paint.

It takes a long time to go after all the rust and grind it out pickle the metal and replace or patch it. They have some great products that speak for themselves.

Ted, did you paint the yellow parts on your engine with regular body color paint? I’m looking for high temp engine paint about that color but all I can find is bright lemon-on-steroids yellow. I’ve seen engines painted with it and it doesn’t look bad but I think it’s supposed to be lighter. I’m afraid it will be too loud in an old truck.

The secret to getting the Duplicolor to last is to clean the areas to be painted good(brake cleaner). Then use there primer (it tells you which one on the can) and let it cure for a week then shoot it with the color.
I know its a pain but it make a HUGE difference. Doing this mine has lasted for years. If I short cut the time it doesnt.

Yes, while the engine was at the machine shop I shot the engine bay with light yellow. The engine is all blue per that year. You could try the POR-15 Hi-Po yellow engine paint. That is not too loud. http://www.por15.com/
