When the truck is at idle (700 rpm) , and I hit the gas to rev it up to, lets say 1000rpm ,it will stay there for a second and then drop back down slowly.
Thanks for any replies

A dashpot on the carb.

Or a vacuum leak being covered up by the accelerator pump shot.

Time to tighten up the hold down nuts. It might be leaking around the base gasket. You need to check them now and then since they get so hot darn hot during heat soak. They shrink a little over time.

Thanks for the replies , It doesn't have a dashpot(holley 1920 #7585), and I have tightened up the hold down nuts( might as well get a new gasket just in case) .I have been checking for vacuum leaks, and have not found any yet.Would running rich or lean do this? What about the timing?

I took my carb off this morning ,and maybe i tightened it too much.
The skin of the gasket was on the manifold , and some of it was stuck on the carb. I took all of that off and I had a thin gasket just too try , and the rpms seem to drop nicely now . I just have to get a thick gasket , and that is another mystery solved,

I would have gotten away with it , if it wasn't for you meddling kids

Thanks

Dave,

I run the same R7585 carb and check the nuts every few months. I am running two of the thick gaskets under mine with a aluminum heat diverter sandwiched between them. Click on the link in red below my name and you can see what it looks like.

If you get the itch to change the mixture setting, check the hold down nuts first.

Thanks Ted ,
That is my next step is to adjust the idle mixture, I ordered one of the colortune Dan was talking about, because I figure ,hopefully that way, I will not be guessing.
