title says it all, been doign great lately, drove it downtown about 5, went to start it at 7:30 and itll crank and crank and crank forever, but doesnt seem to be firing at all. its got hei so the ballast resistor isnt at fault, doesnt seem to be a fuel related issue, and recently replaced all fuel system components(tank to carb) and cleaned out carb. been running for several weeks with no issue after the fuel issue. all wires seem to be tight, pulled cap and rotor (newer bluestreak and mo3000. new vacuum advance line and its right. not sure what would cause it to quit firing after driving for a couple weeks with no problem. leaning towards hei or coil. (think as much as i cranked it wouldve tried at least a little if it was just fouled plugs) i have a 16 hour shift at work tomorrow during which ill be going over this in my head the whole time, cant go get it til tuesday pm, any input for what seems to a be a straighforward problem... 67 dart gt w 225, super six and hei. |

Maybe the HEI died or it is not well grounded. Are you getting a full 12 volts to it? What is the voltage at the coil? |

im going to double check the grounding on the new hei unit, (didnt have a spare so picked a new one up to test and to have a backup) but not difference, 12v with key on at coil and b terminal on hei. could it be the coil? i hate to pull that out because of my leaky engine putting oil on all the wires, but i do have an extra accell superstock (same as im running now but newer) i kept from when i sold my hornet...what next? |

no spark with new properly grounded hei and coil, guessing maybe starter relay? gonna go pick one up and give it a shot, also i did check the fusible link and its good. help! |

ok no spark still with new starter relay, bruce aka oldblue suggested checking the resistance of the reluctor, getting ready to check that if i can find the spec in my books. |

sorry to keep adding, dist shaft doesnt wobble, and rotor turns when car is turned over |

http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/sho ... hp?t=67211 I just went through this on the 4th of July. It would crank over fine just had no spark out of the coil. It made my wife and I late for a party, replaced damn near everything under the hood in relation to the ignition system, replaced all the ground wires, hooked up an old HEI set up and still had no spark....It is your distributer! |

i wonder if its rebuildable? gap issues or reluctor? might be a good time to throw a 9r dizzy on if i can find one.... |

Mine it was a dead pick up. I had replaced the dist about a week before but being a cheap POS that was built in Mexico with Chinese parts it was like the mopar parts store alternators (I went through 8 in one day from the same store before I got a good one), dead or dieing out of the box. |

gotcha, thanks for the help. anyone have a good source for a reman one? i heard good things before i think about rebuilt carbs from rockauto, and i have a friend who got one (before he asked my input) and was able to get it working well (4bbl and hes not very experienced with cars) with no problem, if i were to order the one for a 77 (for example) volare 2bbl, would that be the 9r one? i feel like thats the good one? thanks |
