Howdy guys,

First off recent reader and 1st time poster =D You guys know your stuff so I was hoping maybe you can help me out. Recently I bought a 68 Dart just to use as a daily driver, her has some dings and dents but lets just call it character. One of the things I noticed while I was repairing the instrument cluster (btw thanks for all the help everyone, your insight helped me repair my gauges =D) was that my speedometer cable was broken (the clip that attaches it to the instrument cluster). So I drove down to my local chain auto parts store and told them my car information and they sold me speedo cable part

ca-3027

While this does indeed have the clip on end that attaches to the instrument cluster the other end that attaches to the transmission is incorrect... the bolt on mine is about double the size....... anyone know which cable I would be looking for?

I'm new at the whole car thing so forgive my lack of knowledge.. heres the specs on my car

1968 Dodge Dart
Slant 6 225 automatic

I am unsure of the transmission or even how to tell what it is..

if i missed anything let me know, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks Guys/Gals!

Welcome on the board. Don't know which chain store you went to, but Schuck's, Pep Boys, and Autozone are worth staying away from. Don't know where you are in Seattle, but I've had good results there with Parts Plus and CarQuest. There is a really excellent old-car parts place in Kent called Old Car Parts Northwest. The cable you're after (with plastic clip-on speedo end and large thread-on transmission end) is an ATP number Y-819. The catalogue lists a Y-881, which has the plastic clip-on speedo end but has a smaller thread-on nut at the trans end.

Perfect thats just what I was looking for.

Yea It was Schucks (and autozone). I was thinking about it last night and I realized I had never ordered a part that when it came in was the correct one for my car =O ....don't even get me started on how many times I ordered a wiper motor before I lucked out and found out my old one worked... it was just unplugged from the dash =D

I live in the south end, Federal Way specifically so those parts stores are perfect! I dont mind driving a bit if I can get the right part the 1st time =D

Thanks /6Dan!

I'm off to order me a cable, Have a good one =D
